KATHMANDU, June 19: After selling five thousand copies already, journalist Aswini Koirala's first collection of short stories 'Zuckerberg Café' finally saw its formal launch at Shilpee Theater in Battisputali on Thursday.

The launch began with a short drama performance by actor Karishma Manandhar and Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur Saptahik and Nari Subash Khadka. Sitting adjacent to each other in a café like setting, they were conversing with each other when the waiter provided them with the books. 'Zuckerberg Café' was then formally launched by the duo. Sitting behind them, playing the roles of commoners were writers Subin Bhattarai and Buddhi Sagar, Chief of News of Radio Kantipur, Pawan Acharya and Aswini Koirala himself.

Speaking to the audience comprising of the book readers and media after the launching ceremony, writer Subin Bhattarai commended Koirala's writing style, describing it as 'simple and easy to comprehend.' Highlighting the fact that Nepal is in need of more readership, Bhattarai opined that it could be possible with writers like Koirala coming up with their good works.

He also pointed out Koirala's writing to be "too straightforward" in some parts of the book. "Perhaps journalism stifled Aswini's flow of writing and there were parts where I wish he'd play with words instead of getting straight to the point," he shared.

Agreeing with Bhattarai, writer Buddhi Sagar remarked that any reader of the book will be able to tell that a journalist has written it. He also noted that the book, with its simple writing style, will also be able to captivate individuals attending adult literacy programs, who do not have access to simple books suited for their intellect.

Writer Aswini Koirala, while addressing all the praises and criticisms said that 'Zuckerberg Café' is targeted for youth between 16 to 25 years old. "I've tried to end every story in the collection with a punch...like a sudden realization for the readers, and I hope the readers will like it," he said.

Actor Manandhar, who hasn't read the book yet, expressed her eagerness to read it soon.

Published by Book Hill Publications, 'Zuckerberg Café' is priced at Rs 300.
