“The recently amended regulation has legalized the directorate,” said SC Registrar Ram Krishna Timilsena, adding, “It will help curb impunity through effective implementation of court verdicts.”
According to SC data, over 100,000 court verdicts await implementation. The directorate will oversee the status of court verdicts, rulings, collect records and initiate the process of implementing them at the earliest, said Timilsena.
The directorate will function under the supervision of SC with SC registrar as its in-charge. “We will appoint a director at the directorate shortly,” said SC Registrar Ram Krishna Timilsena, adding, “A first class officer of the government service will be appointed as the director.”
Justice has been denied to many due to the non-implementation of court verdicts. “Many people have been denied justice as verdicts do not get implemented,” admits Timilsena. “The directorate will now facilitate implementation of verdicts.”
According to SC Co-spokesperson Hemanta Rawal, the directorate has been authorized to regularly monitor and supervise the status of court verdicts across the country. “The directorate can direct courts to implement the verdicts,” Rawal said, adding, “It can also suggest a solution while implementing the verdicts if there are obstacles.”
