Jawalakhel lifts Bagmati Gold Cup

MAKWANPUR, Feb 23: Lalitpur based Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) has claimed the title of the third edition of Bagmati Gold Cup.

MAKWANPUR, Feb 23: Lalitpur based Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) has claimed the title of the third edition of Bagmati Gold Cup. 


In the final match played at Phaparbari of Bagmati rural municipality-8 on Sunday afternoon, Jawalakhel defeated Himalayan Sherpa Club 1-0.

With this, the winning club was awarded a trophy and cash prize of Rs 600,000 while another finalist Himalayan Sherpa received Rs 300,000 and a shield. JYC will also receive an additional Rs 400,000 as bonus from Lalitpur metropolitan city. Metropolis had earlier declared to award the clubs within the district to award with cash prizes if they win certified tournaments.  


The only decisive goal came from Daddy Junior Wamba in the 49th minute.


Bagmati Province lawmaker Prem Bahadur Pulami, chairperson of Bagmati rural municipality Sarkesh Ghalan, chairman of Makwanpur District Sports Development Committee Sanu Lama and Makwanpur District Football Association Chair Tika Lama jointly distributed prizes, trophy and medals to the winning teams and players. 


The tournament was organized by the Sports Development Committee of Bagmati rural municipality. A total of 10 teams participated in the tournament including 5 A-division and other provincial and district level clubs. Hariharpurgadhi Sports Development Committee, Sindhuli had won the first edition of the tournament while Kathmandu based Saraswati Youth Club was victorious in its second edition.
