KATHMANDU, Jan 7: CPN (Maoist Center) Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma has proposed electing the party chairman through an electoral process.
Sharma made this proposal during a special session at the ongoing Central Committee meeting of the party in Kathmandu. He argued that the chairman should be elected as the party's statute convention has already decided to elect all committees through voting.

"The statute convention has already developed a method to form all party committees through an electoral process. Why shouldn't this apply to the chairman as well?" Sharma questioned, according to a central committee member of the CPN (Maoist Centre). The member further stated, "None of us are claiming the chairman's position; it will undoubtedly be his. Why should he fear being elected?"
A Central Committee member stated that Sharma emphasized the need to elect the chairman to counter criticism alleging that Pushpa Kamal Dahal has consistently retained the position by running the party like a private company.
