JAJARKOT, March 30: Locals enforced a banda (general strike) in Jajarkot on Wednesday, demanding legal action against the killers of Rabindra Shumsher Shah, a leader of Nepali Congress (NC) in the district.

A day after Shah's murder, locals came to the district headquarters, Khalanga, and protested against the local administration. Schools, markets and industries in the district remained closed throughout the day.

Organized under NC's banner, the protesters have given a 24-hour ultimatum to the administration to arrest the killers who are still at large. They have warned of stern protests if the local administration fails to deliver justice to the victim.

Meanwhile, issuing separate press statements various political organizations including the NC have asked the District Administration Office to arrest the culprits within 24 hours.

An unidentified group of people attacked Shah with stones, killing him on Tuesday evening.

“This has challenged the security of the whole district,” said Khadak BC, secretary of NC in the district.

According to DSP Bhabesh Rimal, there were three more people with Shah when the murder took place. “We are interrogating those three and six more people to find out more details,” Rimal told Republica.
