KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The Election Commission (EC) has stated that it is the responsibility of the federal government to shape the local governments by fixing the dates for the local election. Stating that the tenure of the local level representatives is coming to an end, the EC maintained that it is the responsibility of the government to give shape to the local level by holding the local level election before May 19.
Joint Secretary and Joint Spokesperson Komal Prasad Dhamala of EC has urged the government to fix a date for the elections as it is a political and legal matter. He said that the election should be held within the time frame stipulated by the constitution as the term of representatives of the local level is coming to an end and there is no provision in the law to extend or shorten it.
