KATHMANDU, May 28: The major political parties are holding intra-party discussions on the fate of the Constituent Assembly (CA) as the scheduled meeting of the legislature parliament has not yet begun on Friday afternoon.
The Unified CPN (Maoist) on Friday morning issued a whip to all its parliamentarians to vote for the a notice of disapproval against the government´s bill to amend the Interim Constitution 2007 to extend the Constituent Assembly (CA) terms.[break]
The parliamentary meeting was scheduled to begin 0800 NST.
"We have issued the whip to vote on the notice registered by our party," party spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said after a standing committee meeting.
Although the issuance of whip weakens the chances of the Maoists voting for the CA extension, it however doesn´t affect for the consensus, according to Hari Roka, a Maoist member.
The Maoist notice has to be defeated at the legislature parliament for the tabling of the government´s bill at the parliament.
Maoist lawmakers Dev Gurung and Ek Raj Bhandari had registered the notice in the parliament secretariat.
The meeting held at the Constituent Assembly (CA) building also decided that they would not vote for the extension of CA terms in the status-quo situation. The CA is expiring on Friday midnight.
Meanwhile, Maoist vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai said that his party would go in favor of the extension only after ensuring that there would be a national consensus.
"The hope is still there for the national consensus," he added. "Hopes are alive until the final breath."
