Int’l Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression being marked today

Today marks the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. The United Nations General Assembly decided to observe this day on August 19, 1982, during a special emergency session concerning Palestine, in response to the violence inflicted on children in Palestine and Lebanon due to Israel's attack.

KATHMANDU, June 4: Today marks the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. The United Nations General Assembly decided to observe this day on August 19, 1982, during a special emergency session concerning Palestine, in response to the violence inflicted on children in Palestine and Lebanon due to Israel's attack.


The purpose of this day is to address the physical, mental, and emotional suffering endured by children worldwide and to ensure their protection. Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United Nations has consistently committed to safeguarding children's rights.

Even today, countless children around the world suffer from conflict, extremist violence, exploitation, and impunity. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in 2015, sets clear targets for child protection. Under Goal 16.2, it aims to end all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse against children through stringent measures.
