Indian tourists to Mansarovar up

NEPALGUNJ, July 10: Though the number of third country visiting Nepal declined this year, the number of Indian tourists visiting Kailash Mansarovar has increased.



Prem Bhandari, manager of Hotel Sneha of Nepalgunj, said most of the Indian tourists are making their ways to Mansarovar through Nepalgunj-Simikot-Hilsa route. [break]



“Pilgrimage is the main objective of Indian tourists to visit Mansarovar where as tourists from other countries are lured due to opportunity to enjoy mesmerizing natural beauty and trekking opportunity in Mansarovar area.



Most of the tourist standard hotels in Nepalgunj tend to be crowded with Mansarovar bound tourists in between April and September. Bhandari said, Sneha Hotel alone has been arranging travel to 30-40 Indian tourists and 20-25 third country tourists to Mansarovar every week.



Over 5,000 tourists, of whom a half are from third countries, had traveled to Mansarovar via Nepalgunj last year. Over 3,000 tourists have already left for Mansarovar at a time when two months of main visiting season is still left for this year.



On the eve of Nepal Tourism Year 2011, some Nepali travel agencies have initiated publicity campaign about Nepal´s tourist destinations including Mansarovar in major Indian cities in an effort to lure more Indian tourists to Nepal.



Trekking and travel agents said Nepalgunj-Simikot-Hilsa route is the shortest route to reach Mansarovar. Mainly, Themsherpu, Nepal Trek, Alpine, Himalayan Holiday, Sony Trek and Himalayan Trekking are among the major trekking agencies involved in operating tours to Mansarovar.
