Indian policemen even thrash those Nepalis who refuse to give hard-earned money to them.[break]
Ganesh Rasaili, a resident of Talabang in Rolpa district, was thrashed by the Indian policemen after he refused to give them one hundred rupee. “They led me to a dark room and forcibly took Rs 400 from me after beating me up,” Rasaili said.
Amar Khadka and Yadav Khadka, residents of Chhinwang, Dang, have also complained of thrashing by Indian policemen for not paying the money demanded by them.
Nepal police have time and again asked Indian policemen not to victimize innocent Nepalis returning home from India. But their requests have fallen in deaf ears.
“They continue to harass and rob Nepali people despite our repeated requests,” said Sudhir Khadka, in-charge of Jamunaha police post in Banke.
Ganesh Shah, of Barchhain in Doti, was on his way home with Rs 7,000 he managed to earn working in Mumbai. But, he was robbed again and again by Indian policemen at different places. “I got looted by Indian policemen in almost every city,” a despondent Shah said. “By the time I reached Dhangadhi, I had only Rs 500 in my pocket. How can I go home for this Dashain with so little money?”
Ekindra Kunwar, a resident of Accham, says that Indian policemen even snatched away his cell phone. “I was forced to pay Rs 3,000 to get my own mobile phone back,” Kunwar says.
Apart from Indian policemen, Indian conmen are also robbing Nepali people. In the last two weeks alone, dozens of Nepalis returning home from India have been robbed of by Indian conmen. They give food laced with sedatives to unsuspecting Nepalis. When they get unconscious, conmen flee with all their savings, according to Nepali police.
