Indian gang of smugglers beat Nepalis

KAILALI, Dec 21: A shootout took place in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-9 Jugeda along the Nepal-India border in the wee hours of wednesday. Two years ago, in the middle of the River Mohana,  two policemen were mercilessly murdered and buried by a group of smugglers. Although the bullet casings were found, it was not clear who fired at whom, according to the police.

The gangs of smugglers from the two countries smuggle various goods regularly through this area and gunfire was heard in the border area as stated by the locals. Two rounds of shots were fired in the border area, according to the Kailali District Police Office Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Bed Prakash Joshi. He said that two bullet casings were found. He says that it is not clear who shot at whom. No one has been reported shot yet. 

In the early morning at around 3:00 today, a group of 4-5 people entered the house of Prajapati Bista of Ward No 9, Jugeda. The group assaulted Bista after he came out of his house when the group tried to break the door of the house. The youth in the group were speaking an Indian language, as claimed by the locals.. Bista was injured in the attack. Police said the group had come to rob the house. Locals said that the group from across the border in India came to the house and beat them up.

After they left Bista's house, the sound of gunfire was heard in the border area as stated by the locals . The police said that they are investigating the shootout in the border area. 

Due to increasing insecurity, locals are worried in Kailali. On Sunday evening at Attaria in Kailali, a gold merchant named Bikas Sunar was shot on a road near the Armed Police Force battalion. The shooter is yet to be identified. The gang robbed Sunar of the cash and gold he was carrying.
