KATHMANDU, June 7: Indian and Chinese armies have agreed to peacefully resolve ongoing border tensions in accordance with various bilateral agreements.
The consensus was reached during a meeting between Corps Commander based in Leh and the Chinese Commander in Chushul-Moldo region along India-China border, on June 6, according to India's External Affairs Ministry.
"In recent weeks, India and China have maintained communications through established diplomatic and military channels to address the situation in areas along the India-China border," read a press release issued by the ministry on Sunday.

Both sides agreed to peacefully resolve the situation in the border areas in accordance with various bilateral agreements and keeping in view the agreement between the leaders that peace and tranquility in the India-China border regions is essential for the overall development of bilateral relations, the press release further said.
During the meeting, the two sides also noted that this year marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and agreed that an early resolution would contribute to the further development of the relationship.
"Accordingly, the two sides will continue the military and diplomatic engagements to resolve the situation and to ensure peace and tranquility in the border areas," the ministry said.
The meeting took place in the wake of border standoff between India and China that has seen thousands of troops sent to both sides of the disputed border.
The meeting held in the border outpost of Maldo on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) - the de facto border between the two countries.
