India shut down 29 airports across 8 states until May 10

India closed 29 airports across eight states until May 10 following rising tensions with Pakistan. The affected states include Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday alone, authorities canceled 90 flights at Delhi airport.

KATHMANDU, May 9: India closed 29 airports across eight states until May 10 following rising tensions with Pakistan. The affected states include Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday alone, authorities canceled 90 flights at Delhi airport.


After Pakistan launched a drone attack on India, the Civil Aviation Department issued a new advisory. It now requires passengers to undergo double security checks. In response, Air India, Akasa, SpiceJet, and IndiGo Airlines urged travelers to reach the airport three hours before their flight.

Authorities placed Srinagar Airport on high alert. They also shut schools in border districts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.


In retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian forces conducted late-night airstrikes on May 6, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes reportedly killed more than 100 terrorists.
