KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The Indian Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) arrested a Nepali national from outside the Barabanki railway station, Lucknow on Monday for allegedly having close links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), according to media reports.

The ADG (Law & Order) Brij Lal was quoted in the Indian Express as saying that Wasim alias Khabbu — a native of Taulihawan area in Nepal’s Kapilvastu district — used to help ISI agents and operatives of terror outfits to enter India through Nepal borders.

Fake Indian currency to the tune of Rs 10,000 and a diary containing phone numbers from Pakistan and Nepal were recovered from Wasim’s possession, the report added.

A case against Wasim has been pending with the state ATS since an ISI agent — Sikander alias Jabbar — was arrested from Lucknow in December 2008. According to Sikander, Wasim had helped him cross Nepal borders to enter India.

Wasim was introduced to ISI operatives in Nepal by Pervez Tanda, who was found dead in 2009. Pervez was wanted in several criminal cases in UP’s Bahraich and Shrawasti districts.
