KATHMANDU, Nov 23: The streets in Kathmandu wear a deserted look on Thursday following announcements by two groups to hold demonstrations in the capital today.

Kathmandu and Lalitpur district administration offices have issued prohibitory orders in most places. Security in the Kathmandu Valley has been tightened. There are security personnel on both sides of the road in Balkhu where the Durga Prasai-led group is supposed to hold their demonstration, and Tinkune area, the venue for the CPN-UML affiliated Yuwa Sangh’s demonstration .


In Balkhu, medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai led a demonstration organized for 'Saving the Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Campaign”. Similarly, people have started gathering in Tinkune for the demonstration organized by the youth wing of the CPN-UML.
