KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Doctors working at various hospitals in Kathmandu have staged a protest against police assault against Dr Janith Lal Singh, who works at National Trauma Center, on Saturday.
Doctors as well as other health workers from various hospitals including Bir Hospital, Trauma Center, Civil Hospital participated in the demonstration held at Maitighar Mandala. They were also joined by human rights activists.
The agitating health workers carried placards that read various slogans such as "Down with uniform-wearing goons, ‘Stop violence against health workers,’ "People cannot be hurt in the name of VVIP,” "VVIPs are not needed" and “Citizens cannot be beaten.”
Police personnel on duty on Friday had beaten up a doctor black and blue near National Trauma Center when President Bidya Devi Bhandari was returning to Sheetal Niwas after addressing both the houses of the Federal Parliament. Janith Singh was hit with a stick. Dr Singh was injured in the head due to the beating. Singh is being treated at the Trauma Center.
