KATHMANDU, Nov 20: Nepal has received a target of 91 runs from Thailand in their first match of the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifying Series Asia Region held at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok on Monday.
Sent in to bat first after losing the toss, Thailand secured 90 runs losing six wickets in the alloted 20 overs.
Thai cricketer Naruemol Chaiwai top-scored with 23 runs off 37 balls, Nattakan Chantam made 18 runs studded with two fours in 18 balls while Sornnarin Tippoch collected 15 runs off 27 balls.
Nepal faces Thailand today
Restricting their opponent to 90 runs, Nepal’s Sarita Magar took highest two wickets giving away 11 runs, skipper Rubina Chhetry and Karuna Bhandari grabbed 1 wicket each conceding 22 and 14 runs respectively.
Nepal will compete against China, Hong Kong, Thailand, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Malaysia in the qualifiers that will be held in the round-robin format.
Nepal will take on Hong Kong tomorrow in its second match, face UAE and Malaysia on November 23 and 24 respectively.
Nepal will take on China in the last league match on November 26.
Top two teams will secure their berths in the Global Qualifiers, which will include Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies in the Women’s World T20 to be held in the Netherlands next year.
