Hygiene stickers for resorts and hotels in Nagarkot

BANEPA, Jan 20: The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) has approved the hygiene level of four dozen hotels and resorts in Nagarkot.

BANEPA, Jan 20: The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) has approved the hygiene level of four dozen hotels and resorts in Nagarkot.


The department has provided hygiene logo and stickers to hotels and resorts for the first time. The the department had inspected 34 hotels and resorts of Mandan Deupur Municipality-1 and 2 and 14 hotels and resorts of Changunarayan Municipality-6 and 8.


The hotels and resorts were categorized into four types under the basis of hygiene and cleanliness.

According to the department, 48 hotels and resorts were divided into categories of very good, good and satisfactory on the basis of inspection. Matina Joshi Vaidya, Director General of DFTQC, has provided stickers and certificates herself by doing field inspection of hotels and resorts.


Three hotels received very good (three stars), two received good (two stars), 20 received satisfactory (one star) and 21 received normal stickers.


DFTQC has given orders to two hotels for improvement in hygiene as they were unable to meet the criteria set by the department. “Categorizing on the basis of hygiene of food, 95% hotels and resorts of Nagarkot have paid attention to hygiene. We have provided stickers and certificates on the basis of score obtained during the evaluation. This will attract international and domestic tourists in Nagarkot,” said Vaidya.


Club Himalaya Resort, Hotel Mystic Mountain and Hotel Country Villa have received green stickers of very good with three stars. These resorts have received score of 95, 92 and 91. 


Likewise, Bojinee Nagarkot Resort and Hotel Himalayan Villa have received green stickers with two stars. “Hotels and resorts of Nagarkot have maintained hygiene on food and granary but the division has not classified them. Logo and certificates provided by us will allow customers to eat without any hesitation,” said Vaidya.


According to Nabin Gurung, chairperson of Nagarkot Naldum Tourism Development Committee, they will provide help for evaluation in hygiene in hotels and resorts of Nagarkot. 


“Hotels and resorts of Nagarkot have been maintaining hygiene by their own way and winning the heart of tourists,” said Gurung, “Nagarkot is famous for tourists and they can get positive information about the hygiene of the hotels and resorts with the help of the logo and certificates.”
