The process is quite long and tedious, but here´s how to approach the issue, with minimal fuss. The whole process isn´t that difficult as long as you follow the guidelines strictly. Allow an approximate one month time to actually get your license in hand. Good luck! [break]
The form
Fill a copy of license form in clear legible handwriting. The form is available just outside the premises of Department of Transport Management Bagmati Zonal Office for Rs 2, even though the price fixed by Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan is Rs 1.
In the form, in the place asking you what license you want, write “A” for two wheeler (Category A). For a car, jeep, delivery van (Category B) write “B”. For both, write “A, B”. You will also be required to stick three passport size recent photographs and a stamp of Rs 5.
Everything that follows must be done within the working hours of 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Basic requirements
You will require a health check up report, ie to check if your eyes and ears function properly. This service is available at the office itself. The payment for this service, Rs 10 can be done on a counter next to the entrance of the office. After paying the amount go to room number 12. The doctor present there will then give approval after checking if your ears and eyes work properly.

Form submission and written test
Computer entry of your application for license is made in window number 7 before 1:30 pm on all working days. The examination fee is Rs 200 for Category A and B each. You will then receive a receipt for payment of the sum and your admit card for the written examination.
The written examination is held the very next day of registration and the exact time for the examination is mentioned in the admit card. You will have to bring your admit card, original citizenship card, and the receipt. The examinations start from 7 am and each is half an hour long. There are 20 multiple choice questions with four options. The examination tests basic traffic rules and regulations. To pass in the written examination, one has to get 10 of the 20 questions right. Around 60 people give the written examination at a time and before the start of each exam, the instructor explains the instructions for the examination.
The results of the written examination are announced on the same day 3 pm onward. The name and the registration number of candidates who pass are stuck on the gate for the entrance to the office. Another way of knowing the result is to use the SMS service. For that, send “Dotm (space) your entry number” to 4321. However, use this service only after 10-20 minutes after the announcement of the result.
If you fail the written examination, you have to reapply. However, you can only reapply after a period of 90 days after the registration of the form. The same procedure from the beginning should be followed to reapply.
The trial
If you pass, you will have the trial (practical) examination the very next day from 6 am to 9 am. If you applied for license for Category A, you will have your trail at Sajha Petrol Pump, Pulchowk. However, if you applied for only Category B or both A and B, your trail will be conducted at National Training compound, Baggi Khana. For the trail examination you will have to bring you original citizenship card and the receipt of payment that you previously received. Your admit card is sent to the respective place, only if you pass the written
examination.
If you fail in the trail examination, you have to reapply. However, you can only reapply after a period of 90 days after the registration of the form. The same procedure from the beginning should be followed to reapply.
If you pass in the trail, you will receive your admit card with the signature of the invigilator.
The final steps
Within the 35 days of giving your trail examination, you will have to get your license from the Department of Transport Management Bagmati Zonal Office. If you fail to do so, you will have to reapply with the same procedure from the beginning.
Now that you have the admit card, go to the window number 7 of the Department of Transport Management Bagmati Zonal Office to pay the tax and get the blank license card. For this, you need to bring your admit card, your original citizenship card, a photocopy of it and a passport and an auto sized (to be stuck on the blank license card) recent photograph of yours.
After paying Rs 700 for license of Category A and Rs 1000 for Category B/both Category A and B, you will receive a blank license card.
In the blank license card, stick your auto sized photo and get it typed with typing facilities available outside the compound of the office. Rs 20 is charged for typing the information on each of the blank card.
After verifying all the information in the card with your original document, go to the posting section, and deposit your card with the receipt.
On the receipt, the section officer will mention the exact date when the candidate can come to receive their license. This is usually two weeks after depositing the filled license.
Come back on the date mentioned and go to the posting section where you will be given your license by calling out your name. After thumb fingerprinting on your previous application form, provided in the same section, you will be given your license.
