KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand on Monday directed the authorities concerned to release Security Guard Sherjung Gurung, who was put in custody for allegedly asking Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha to stand in line.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Minister Khand asked the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Govinda Prasad Rijal to release Gurung from the police custody fulfilling due official procedures.

On Friday, Minister Shrestha had reached theVFS Office at Chhaya Center in Thamel to apply for a visa to travel to Canada. Gurung, a security guard mobilized from Garud Securities, asked everyone including Minister Shrestha to stand in line as he tried to breach the queue of visa applicants. However, Minister Shrestha claimed that Gurung misbehaved with him and his personal security officer (PSO) in the incident.
Gurung was subsequently arrested and put in police custody. The directive of Home Minister Khand comes amid public uproar against the arrest of Gurung.
