HIMS joins Karate Club

KATHMANDU: Himalayan Higher Secondary School (HIMS), well known for school swimming competition and table tennis at the school level, on Thursday said it would host HIMS National Open Karate Championship on its premises at Jorpati on Friday and Saturday.



Organizing a press meet in the capital, RC Khanal, the principal of the school, said that the aim behind organizing karate for the first time in support of the National Sports Council´s decision of making sports education compulsory at the school level. [break]



According to Resham Lama, the karate chief coach of HIMS and Chief of the Mahankal Dojo, the event will feature 261 players from nine different teams from three districts of Kathmandu and also from Dang, Sidhupalchowk, Kaski. There will be 11 weight categories in the men´s section from 20 kg to 70 and 10 weight categories in women´s section from 20 kg to above 61 kg. The event will also feature men´s and women´s singles kata.



Kayastha, Tuladhar pair win doubles title



KATHMANDU: Central Region´s pair of Neeru Kayastha and Rekha Tuladhar´s pair claimed women´s doubled title in the Seventh National Soft Tennis Tournament that kicked off on Thursday at APF court, Halchowk. The duo edged past Nepal Police Club player of Samriddi Rimal and Kripa Sharma 4-1, 10-8, 4-2, 4-2, 4-2 in the final.



Yasmini Shahi and Laxmi Singh´s pair from the Far Western Region and Preeti Baral´s pair from Western Region finished joint third. Nepal Police took home the team title defeating Central Region 2-1. Under team events, Police won one out of two doubles and one singles. Earlier, Armed Police Force (APF) IGP Koshraj Onta had inaugurated the tournament.
