KATHMANDU, June 16: The Patan High Court has issued a short-term interim order directing that journalist Dil Bhushan Pathak not be arrested immediately.
Although the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau had obtained an arrest warrant from the Kathmandu District Court in a case related to the Electronic Transactions Act (ETA), the High Court on Monday ordered that Pathak should not be arrested immediately.

The order was issued by a single bench of Justice Rishiraj Bhandari. Journalist Pathak had approached the Patan High Court, claiming that the attempt to arrest him was illegal.
Both parties have been summoned for a hearing on June 19 to decide whether a further interim order should be issued. Until a new order is made, the police are barred from arresting him under the current interim order.
On June 11, the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau obtained an arrest warrant from the Kathmandu District Court against journalist Pathak. The warrant followed a complaint filed by Jaiveer Deuba, son of Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The complaint, lodged at the Cyber Bureau, alleged that an unverified news report about his share purchase in Hilton Hotel was broadcast on Pathak’s YouTube channel.
