The airline had temporarily shut down its operations on March 11 after it failed to repair its three 19-seater Beechcraft 1900s due to lack of spare parts.[break]
Ghanashyam Acharya, chief strategic officer of Guna Air, said they would be able to bring the aircraft into operation by the end of this month as the carrier has already arranged necessary spare parts.
Guna Air received spare parts from customs office at Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday itself.
"We will be operating only two aircraft in the first phase. It will take some weeks to bring the third aircraft into operation," added Acharya.
Meanwhile, Guna Air is planning to expand its operation by add three aircraft in its fleet by October. "We will be bringing three 40-50 seater aircraft," added Acharya.
Guna Air launched operation on May 19, 2009 by procuring aircraft from domestic carrier Buddha Air. It is owned by Guna Group - a business conglomerate that also owns Guna Co-Operative, Guna Cinema and Guna Colony among others.
Before it temporarily halted operation, Guna Air was operating 16 flights a day from Kathmandu. The airline was operating five flights a week to Pokhara, two each to Biratnagar and Simra and one to Bhirahawa. It was operating six mountain flights a day.
"After bringing new aircraft into service, we will add new destinations and increase flight frequency on existing routes," said Acharya.
Guna Air is also adding more services to its passengers. "Our new services will come as a surprise to our passengers. We will announce it shortly," Acharya told Republica.
Guna Airlines flew 95,503 passengers in 2011, down from 96,000 in 2010, according to the statistics of Tribhuvan International Airport.
