It was proposed that the government can withdraw the case from any court at any level where the political power that is in armed conflict or underground comes to peaceful politics. The government was being criticized for trying to withdraw cases that had entered the court process by revising some Nepal Acts.
The government, facing criticism regarding the handling of issues related to the armed conflict, stated that these cases could be referred to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), and other issues should be addressed accordingly. Following this criticism, the government announced its decision to withdraw the proposal.
In Sunday’s meeting, Chaurasiya announced that section 64 of the proposed bill would be withdrawn. He said that they are ready to withdraw Section 64 as the previous minister said that he would withdraw it.
Law Ministry Secretary Udaya Raj Sapkota said that he had decided to withdraw the current section because a separate law can be made if necessary.
In the past, the government had agreed to withdraw the cases pending in courts when it agreed to withdraw cases against Janamat Party Chairman CK Raut and leaders including Netra Bikram Chand aka Biplab. The government had made a provision in the bill to amend certain Nepal Acts to implement this agreement.
