KATHMANDU, Jan 2: Nepal is waiting for the World Health Organization (WHO)'s decision to use the existing stock of the Sinovac vaccine against COVID-19 infection.
The decision from the WHO has been awaited regarding whether the vaccine could be administered as a booster dose or not, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

Dr Bibek Kumar Lal, Director of the Family Welfare Division under the MoHP, said that the Sinovac has not been considered effective as a booster dose. "Hence we have not brought it into use as a booster dose. To be used as a booster dose, it must obtain approval from the WHO," he explained.
The government of China had provided around four million doses of Sinovac vaccines to the government of Nepal on March 26 and 29 in 2022.
