Govt to unveil private school standard guidelines

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: The government has decided to bring the private school standard guidelines with the objective of regulating the institutional schools.



The government has decided to bring the Private School Standard Guidelines as per the suggestion provided by the task force constituted under the convenorship of Teknarayan Pandey, Director at the Department of Education.[break]



According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Mahashram Sharma, the government has been interacting with the stakeholders on the proposed private school standard guidelines and that it would soon finalize it.



The proposed guidelines would specify the minimum criteria for the institutional schools, including the infrastructure requirements, teachers´ code of conduct, the syllabus, scholarships, and distance between home and school, among others.



In the course of setting the standards, the government would keep the records of schools not having the minimum required infrastructure that are not operational though registered.



The MoE and the stakeholders have agreed to forward the process for scrapping the registration of such schools that have taken the license but are not operational, said Sharma.



The government and private schools organizations would move together to recognize the schools that have not met the criteria, said General Secretary of the Private and Boarding School Organisation (PABSON), DK Dhungana.



Similarly, discussions were underway to merge or close the schools that are financially weak or classified in category ´D´, said Chairman of the Guardians´ Association, Suprabhat Bhandari.
