KATHMANDU, May 30: The government has decided to implement the Prime Minister Employment Program (PMEP) more effectively and in a result-oriented manner in FY2019/20.
Unveiling budget for the next fiscal year, Minister for Finance Yuba Raj Khatiwada said that unemployed people listed with Employment Service Centers across the country will be mobilized in public works. “Such unemployed people will also be utilized in infrastructure and construction works implemented by using fiscal equalization fund and special grants provided by the federal government to sub-national governments.
The government has allocated Rs 5.1 billion for the PMEP.

According to Minister Khatiwada, the government will bring innovative and special skill development programs to meet the demand for quality human resources in the market.
The government has said that it would provide seed capital to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship. “Skill development training for unemployed will be included in the government’s policy. Similarly, the government will effectively implement international commitments on labor issues,” he added.
The government is also promoting ‘Afno Gaun, Aafai Banaun’ (Build Our Village Ourselves) campaign for development works and create jobs at the local level.
Likewise, the government has said it will sign a Bilateral Labor Agreement with labor receiving countries so that migrant Nepali workers get good pay and facilities. The finance minister also said that migrant workers will be encouraged to remit their earnings home through banking channel and invest in the productive sector.
The government has set aside Rs 7.14 billion for labor and income generation sector.
