KATHMANDU, March 21: The government has promoted Chudamani Paudel to the post of Secretary (special class). Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said that in Thursday's Cabinet meeting, it was decided to promote Paudel to the post of Secretary.
On September 9, the Cabinet appointed Joint Secretary Paudel as the acting Chief Secretary of Karnali Province. He still holds the same position.
Major General Pandey’s resignation approved
Now, even with his promotion to the post of Secretary, he is going to be posted in Karnali. Paudel had been recommended for promotion to the post of Secretary twice before. However, on those occasions, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire and Radhika Aryal were promoted to the post of Secretary upon recommendation.
Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers meeting has accepted the resignation of Kewal Prasad Bhandari, Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, who was to retire on March 24. His resignation was accepted five days before his retirement. With this, the way to appoint a new Secretary was opened.
According to Section 37 of the Civil Service Act 2049 BS, employees who have joined the bureaucracy before November 6, 1992 and have completed 30 years of service can opt for voluntary retirement (resignation) before their mandatory retirement. This allows them to calculate the remaining period until reaching 60 years and receive additional pension benefits. Due to this, some secretaries have chosen to resign a few days before reaching the age of 58 or before completing their 5-year tenure.
During the cabinet meeting, discussions were also held regarding the reshuffle and transfer of secretaries in several ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Labour. Newly appointed ministers have expressed interest in transferring their preferred secretaries.
