KATHMANDU, June 13: The government has barred digging up roads in the capital for the next three months starting from Tuesday, citing the rainy season this year.

Issuing a public notice on Sunday, the Federal Roads Supervision and Monitoring Office (FRSMO), Kathmandu, has stated that it will not allow the offices concerned to dig up roads during this rainy season. Citing the difficulties in road maintenance, the government authority has prohibited digging up roads starting from June 15 to September 16.

“As the roads dug up for water pipelines, sewage, electricity cables and telecommunication, among others, cannot be maintained properly in the rainy season, permission will not be granted to dig up any road segments for the period. Anyone found forcibly digging up the roads will face stern action under the Road Act 1974,” reads the notice issued by the FRSMO.
