KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Following tremendous pressure from the ruling partners, opposition parties and various sections of the society not to drag national army into politics, Maoist leaders in the government have softened their stance on army’s fresh recruitment drive. Speaking at a program organized by Maoist-affiliated journalists in Dang, Information and Communications Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara said the government was not in favor of halting the process for appointment in the vacant positions, which are necessary in the army. “We don’t mean there should not be any recruitment in the army,” said Mahara. “We don’t want to affect the regular business of the institution.” He said army’s work will be disturbed if it was barred from recruiting a barber in the vacant position. Minister Mahara also claimed there was no difference between the government and the army as reported by media.
