Govt increases mountaineering workers’ wage  by three times

The daily wages for workers have now been fixed at Rs 1,500 per day for leaders followed by Rs 1,200 per day for mountain guides and workers going to high altitudes, and Rs 1,000 per day for workers deployed at the base camp.

KATHMANDU, Feb 4: There has been a significant rise in the wages of mountaineering workers.


The government has decided to increase their wages through the Mountaineering (Sixth Amendment), 2081.

Following the government's decision, the daily wages for workers have now been fixed at Rs 1,500 per day for leaders followed by Rs 1,200 per day for mountain guides and workers going to high altitudes, and Rs 1,000 per day for workers deployed at the base camp.


Earlier, the daily wage of a leader was Rs 400, the daily wage of mountain guides and workers going to high altitudes was Rs 350, and the daily wage of workers deployed at the base camp was only Rs 300.


The government has decided that local workers going to high altitudes up to 3,700 meters will be paid Rs 800 per day, and local workers going above that will be paid Rs 1,000 per day.
