KATHMANDU, Jan 1: The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday has formed a three-member committee to recommend names of three potential candidates for the post of governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. The committee headed by Finance Minister Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai includes industrialist Krishna Prasad Acharya and former governor Himalaya Shumsher JB Rana.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within a month to the cabinet. According to Nepal Rastra Bank Act, the committee is required to recommend three names from the field of monetary, banking, finance, commerce, management, commercial law and from among the Deputy Governors.

The new committee has been formed after the cabinet meeting decided to remove suspended governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai, who has been facing corruption charges. The decision was made on the recommendation of a committee headed by former Supreme Court Justice Udaya Raj Upadhyaya.
