Earlier, the local level restructuring commission had recommended the government to fix the numbers of local units at 719.

The government decided to review the commission report and took the decision to add 25 local units than the commission recommended as the Madhes-based parties as well as locals from some other districts expressed dissatisfaction over the report.

According to a source at the Ministry of Local Development, the government decided to add 21 local units in the eight districts of Province 2 as well as to add two local units in Kathmandu and one each in Manang and Bajhang on what the commission had recommended.
