As per the suggestion of the Ministry of Finance and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) that there is still pressure on foreign currency reserves, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply recommended the government to continue the ban until mid-December.

The ban on import of foreign liquor, smart phones worth more than 300 dollars, motorcycles above 150CC and jeeps, cars and vans will remain in force until December 15.

Earlier, the government had imposed a complete ban on the import of 10 types of goods till the end of June last May due to depleting foreign currency reserves.

The government extended the ban on July 15 by making the ban more strict. However on August 30, the ban on six types of goods including Kurkure, diamonds and others were lifted while the import ban on vehicles, mobile phones, alcohol and motorcycles was kept unchanged.
