SURKHET, Dec 11: Non-gazetted first class Officer Nabraj Sharma Rijal, working in the Ministry of Social Development of Karnali Province, allegedly assaulted his wife Nirmala Kumari Acharya, who is also the head of women and children branch of Bhairabi Rural Municipality of Dailekh on Saturday morning and injured her. The incident sheds light on the prevalent issue of domestic violence against women in Nepal. What would it be like in an uneducated society where women are in such a situation in a home where both husband and wife are educated?
Nirmala, who has been suffering violence from her husband for five years, reached the Ministry of Social Development on Friday. From there, she went to a hotel in Birendranagar to participate in a campaign against gender violence, and was threatened by her husband over the phone. Then she went to her relatives instead of going home.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Laxman Shahi stated, "When Nirmala Kumari Acharya was staying at her relative's house, it was revealed that her husband beat her up on Saturday morning." Nirmala, who sustained injuries, is currently receiving treatment at Karnali Province Hospital.
According to the police, Acharya has prepared to file a case against her husband Rijal for indecent behavior.
In response, Rijal said, “The injury to his wife's eye occurred accidentally when he attempted to hit her cheek, and the watch on his hand struck her eye.” He claimed there was no other form of physical violence.
He said that there was a dispute over the issue of his wife not consulting him while going out for office work or doing other work.
