Shiva Prasad Tripathi, under-secretary of Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS), said preparation was underway to build fuel storage facilities in Panchkhal of Kavre, Trishuli of Nuwakot and Khaireni of Tanahun. These facilities will have tanks to store diesel and petrol. Each facility can store 6,000 kilolitres of petrol and 1,000 kiloliters of diesel, according to Tripathi.

“We have approached the Chinese government to build these facilities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has already sent a proposal to this effect to the Chinese government as per the request of MoCS,” he added.

At present, NOC has the capacity to store 71,569 kilolitres of petrol, diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel. According to NOC officials, the existing storage facility can sustain demand for petrol for a week, diesel for 15 days and ATF for 10 days. The government doesn't have infrastructure to store LP gas.

NOC currently has storage facilities at Thankot, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Bhairahawa, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Biratnagar.
