Officials involved in the inspection said the company was found selling mineral water without mentioning selling price, batch number and expiry date on the label. [break]
A team led by Tika Bhandari, under-secretary of Department of Commerce, had inspected the mineral water plant located at Baglung Municipality-11 on Thursday.
“We found that the company was not following the Standard and Metrology Act and other related regulations while producing mineral water. We banned production and selling of the products as the company was found not to have got permission,” Bhandari told Republica.
The company which came into operation since last year has been selling its products in Banglung, Parbat, Maygi and other adjoining districts. The company has been producing 3,000 liters of mineral water daily. The inspection team has also taken samples of the mineral water for lab test.
Shivaji Baral, inspector of Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Pokhara said the company has only used chemicals to kill germs in the process of purifying water.
“Instead, the chemicals used kill even necessary nutrients in the water,” said Baral. Prakash Rajbhandari, proprietor of the company conceded the weakness on the side of the company in the process of producing mineral water.
