KATHMANDU, August 17: The government has completely banned plastic bags below 40 microns effective from August 17.
The Department of Environment (DoE) under the Ministry of Forests and Environment issued a notice saying that plastic bags less than 40 microns cannot be used from today.
SC orders ban on the use of plastics thinner than 40 microns
The DoE has said that the production, import, sale, distribution and use of plastic thinner than 40 microns have been completely banned in order to reduce environmental pollution.
From today, production, import, sale, distribution and use of plastic bags thinner than 40 microns will be strictly monitored.
The DoE has warned of stringent actions against those flouting the government’s decision as per the Environment Protection Act, 2019 and the Environmental Protection Rule, 2020.
