KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The government has appointed Gokarna Mani Duwadi as the new home secretary. A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday evening took a decision to this effect. The cabinet meeting decided to transfer Duwadi from his current position as secretary at the National Statistics Office under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
The position of home secretary was vacant after the previous home secretary, Ek Narayan Aryal, was appointed as chief secretary by the Council of Ministers on August 29.

Duwadi, who was previously transferred from the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation to the National Statistics Office on July 28, was among several secretaries considered for the role.
Although Duwadi's transfer was not initially listed in the 24 decisions made public by the Council of Ministers on Friday, his appointment as home secretary was confirmed later in the day. Duwadi, who has held various administrative roles, including at the Election Commission, will now lead the home administration.
