Kiran Thapa, showroom manager of Virgin Mobile showroom at New Road, said they were getting more and more enquiries about 3G communication system and 3G handsets. "People ask us about 3G communication and handsets. But it seems that high price tag of the sets is keeping people away," he said.

Virgin Mobile has an impressive collection of 3G mobile phones from different brands. Samsung Corby Pro costing Rs 21,700 is the cheapest 3G handset available at Virgin Mobile, while Nokia N97 costing Rs 51,670 is the most expensive 3G set at the store, according to Thapa.

According to Nepal Telecom, the monthly rental for 3G post-paid is Rs 300 similar to the 2G post-paid at Rs 300. The telecom giant has fixed video call tariff for post-paid 3G to Rs 4 per minute, while the tariff for pre-paid video call is Rs 5 per minute. MMS charge has been fixed Rs 2.50 per message.
