KATHMANDU, Oct 22: Goat traders have said that this time their business is less than in the past.

On the occasion of Bijaya Dashami, the great festival of Nepalis, traders have brought goats from different districts but the business is not significant. They say that this decline is attributed to the limited supply of goats from remote districts, which has driven up prices in the Kathmandu Valley.

Traders have expressed dissatisfaction with the government's procurement of goats, primarily from within Kathmandu, rather than from remote areas, which has contributed to the increase in prices.

Likewise, Santosh Bahadur Khatri, vice-president of Chaupaya Kharid Bikri Sewa Sangh said that this year's sales have been less than those in previous years. He said that because people lack money, there is no rush during Dashain and the prices are the same as other times.

Furthermore, this year, there has been a halt in imports from India, and there is an abundant supply of goats within Nepal.

Traders brought goats to Kathmandu from districts including Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan, Jhapa, Ilam, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Kavrepalanchok, Dhading and Sindhupalchowk.
