Talking to media persons in Birgunj on Saturday, former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Gachchhadar, who is also Chairman of the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic), said President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had never attempted military coups. [break]"The role of president is related to the government´s decision as per the constitution. I am not aware of the president making any such attempts," he said.
"As far as I know the president has not breached his jurisdiction and has been fulfilling his duties."
Talking to a group of journalists at his residence in Sanepa on Friday, Former Prime Minister Bhattarai said the president attempted coups for four times after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly (CA) in May 27 last year.
According to him, the first time the president had tried a coup was the day after the CA dissolution, terming the government unconstitutional. The president tried a coup on July 22 when he rejected the election ordinance and in the third week of October when he consulted with army chief Gaurav SJB Rana.
Bhattarai had alleged that the president had made final attempt to stage coup on November 22, stating that his government could not hold elections.
On the occasion, Gachchhadar assured that there will be election by the third week of November at any cost. Stating that efforts are under way also to bring the agitating political parties onboard the election process, he said that parties are trying to bring Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist and Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Nepal in the High Level Political Committee.
Gachchhadar also termed the parties that are opposed to election as ´anti-democratic´. He argued that since the current Chief Justice-led government was formed with the sole purpose to hold election, there is a need to hold election at the earliest to form a government that can perform day to day function of the country.
