POKHARA, Jan 19: An expert team has arrived from France to study the plane crash of Yeti Airlines that happened on Sunday in Pokhara. A team of forensic experts has already reached the incident site in Pokhara on Wednesday. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has said that a representative had come from the ATR aircraft manufacturing company.


According to a CAAN official, the French team has come to Pokhara to study the accident of aircraft. The team is inspecting the scene of the incident, said the official of the authority, and will discuss the aircraft accident with the eyewitnesses. The team is also said to set up a discussion with the Pokhara officials of CAAN.

According to Kaski police Spokesperson Inspector Gyan Bahadur Khadka, the team inspected the incident site on Wednesday. The government has also formed a committee to investigate the accident. The committee has been given 45 days to produce a report. A five-member accident investigation commission has also been formed under the coordination of former secretary Nagendra Ghimire. The commission has also started working in Pokhara.


There were 72 people including four crew members on board the plane that crashed in Pokhara on Sunday. As many as 15 of them were foreign nationals. The police also said that the bodies of 71 people who died in the accident have been found. Police Spokesperson Khadka said that the body of the remaining one passenger could not be identified.


“We have confirmed the bodies of 71 people. However, since the body parts of some of them were found in mutilated conditions, it cannot be confirmed if there were 72 passengers. However, the search is still going on," he said. "If the body parts are identified, it will be confirmed that the bodies of 72 people have been found. The bodies of 48 of the deceased were sent to Kathmandu on Tuesday. 


An ATR72-500 series aircraft of Yeti Airlines with the call sign 9N ANC met with the accident. This aircraft was built in 2007 and operated. The aircraft, built by a French-Italian consortium, had been flying for the past 15 years. Lately, the most preferred European aircraft by Nepali Airlines is the ATR turbo jet aircraft. This is the first and terrible accident of this model aircraft in Nepal. According to the stakeholders of the aviation sector, Sunday’s was the most terrible accident in the domestic aviation sector so far.
