CHITWAN, Feb 22: Former Member of Parliament (MP) Eknath Ranabhat passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College. He was 69. He had been hospitalized since the past 16 days after he suffered a stroke. He was hypertensive. He breathed his last at 1:58 pm.
Ranabhat, a resident of Pithuwa of Ratnanagar Municipality-14 in Chitwan, had been elected to the House of Representatives during the 2056 BS election from the Chitwan Constituency-2. According to local Nepali Congress leader Rupanraj Ghimire, Ranabhat was born on November 13, 1952 at Bhatkhola of Syangja.

He was the NC Chitwan former (district) secretary, Landless Squatters' Problems Solution Commission, Rupandehi's former chair, National Cooperatives Board former vice chair and so on. He is survived by his spouse, a daughter and a son. His last rites will be conducted at Devghat on Tuesday morning.
The NC Chitwan has issued a condolence message on the demise of Ranabhat and stated that it had lost an honest leader. District President Jeet Narayan Shrestha said the death of Ranabhat caused an irreparable loss to the entire party. His mortal body will be kept at the NC party office, Narayanghat for an hour on Tuesday morning for last tributes.
