KATHMANDU: An investigation on the murder of Dhangadhi-based journalist Jagat Joshi, carried out by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), has found that local Maoist leaders are behind the murder.

A probe report made public in the capital by the FNJ on Tuesday said Maoists’ Kailali District Secretary Hari Chaudhary and pro-Maoist businessman Lokendra Rawat were behind the murder of journalist Joshi, whose body was recovered on Nov 28 two months after he went missing.

Coordinator of FNJ´s five-member probe mission, Ramesh Bista, said Joshi was targeted because he wrote news that went against Rawat´s interests.

The report, which has demanded formation of an all-powerful high-level judicial commission to probe on the incident, also said police is reluctant to act on the case.
