FNJ deplores threats against Sanghu editor

KATHMANDU, Feb. 8: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) issued a press statement and said that the verbal abuse and issuing threat for life to Gopal Budhathoki, editor of the Sanghu Weekly, has drawn its serious concern.



The statement issued by FNJ General Secretary, Om Sharma, reads the life threats through different phone calls from Germany and Malaysia to finish off Budhathoki within seven days has drawn its attention.[break]



The different persons had given the life threats to Budhathoki if he did not beg pardon within seven days regarding the news published in the Weekly titled ´Kajile Kumlyaunda Mahasanghko Mounata´ on February 4.



The FNJ statement reads to threat any journalist was an act against press freedom though there were legal ways to show concern or disagreement over the news published in any paper. The FNJ demanded that the government provide necessary support to create environment for press freedom.
