Issuing a press statement on Friday, FNJ, which is an umbrella organization of Nepali journalists across the country, said the remarks of visiting UN official John Ging, who termed reports in the Nepali media 'nonsense', not only breaches diplomatic decorum, but also goes against right to freedom of expression and freedom of the press. The FNJ has also termed his remarks a direct interference in Nepal's nationality and sovereignty.
Director of Coordination and Response Division of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) John Ging had termed the media reports 'nonsense' and also issued veiled threats to pull out WFP's support to Nepal on Wednesday. Although separate probes of parliamentary panel and National Human Rights Commission found that the food distributed by WFP in Gorkha and Kavrepalanchowk districts were sub-standard, the WFP has been consistently maintaining that all the food it distributed were of good quality.The FNJ has demanded action against the Ging for issuing veiled threats. The FNJ has also urged the government to take the remarks of Ging seriously, especially since the parliamentary monitoring committee and NHRC concluded that the rice and pulses distributed by the WFP were inedible.
Issuing a separate statement, Nepal Press Union (NPU) has also condemned the remarks of Ging.
