“In the last two decades, the LDCs have been pushed further into extreme poverty. Support from the G-20 will be crucial for promoting inclusive economic growth, achieving sustainable development goals, enhancing global health security, effectively addressing climate change impacts, reducing the digital divide, and mitigating the multifaceted challenges we face,” her private secretariat quoted the Foreign Minister as saying.
She expressed gratitude to Brazil, the G-20 chair, for organizing the meeting with a focus on social inclusion, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development, and welcomed its initiative to launch a global campaign to combat hunger and poverty.
Additionally, Minister Rana called for the establishment of a formal mechanism to represent LDCs within the G-20.
She urged the G-20 to lead the establishment of a “Climate Change Fund” to address climate-related issues faced by LDCs, create quota systems for LDC products, implement customs exemptions, and introduce debt relief programs.
