POKHARA, May 7: With the attention of the administration centered entirely on rescue and search operations at Kharapani village along Sardikhola, the victims of the flashfloods in other areas have been completely ignored. Five families of Awang village displaced by the Seti flashflood have been living in nearby Chitu forest without food, clothes and shelter.

"The five families who survived the flood have been living in Chitu jungle without any help from anyone, no one has gone to rescue them or provide them relief material. Not even the local administration has shown any interest on them," said Damraj Magar, a local. "Even Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai did not take interest in knowing about the condition of the villagers when he came to inspect the flood hit areas," added Magar. [break]

The flood also damaged the only suspension bridge that connected Awang and Kawache village. The bridge was constructed 6 years ago with the assistance of Annapurna Conservation Area Protect (ACAP).

According to Magar, the flood swept away three houses and partially damaged two houses belonging to the victims. Aashamaya Tamang, one of the victims, was taken away by the flood along with her house and 25 cattle.

Meanwhile, DIG Rajendrasingh Bhandari stated that the victims would be provided with relief material as soon as possible. "The victims would be rescued and provided relief material soon," he said.

A team of Nepal Red Cross informed that the organization has already sent relief packages for the victims. "Our team has already left for the jungle with food material and clothing. We hope the supplies we have sent will last for a week," said Dharmaraj Adhikari, a Red Cross official.
