BANKE, Nov 26: With the changes seen in weather lately, flights to and from Nepalgunj airport are being affected due to fog and mist in the morning and evening.
The flights for hilly districts like Humla, Dolpa, Jumla, Rukum West, far western districts and Kathmandu are being operated from Nepalgunj airport. However, passengers are suffering as flights are being delayed due to fog and mist. They complain that they are forced to stay in the cold due to untimely flight.
Bad weather affects domestic flights
“I have been in the airport since morning. However, the flight has not taken off yet,” Harka Singh Budha, who was on his way to Jumla. His flight took off only after the sun came out.
Although the fogs and mists are natural phenomena, the government should take initiative at the airport to keep the passengers warm and comfortable, passengers say.
According to the Nepalgunj Airport Office, fog and mist have caused problems in the flight since last week. "Mist and fog affect flights in the morning," said Subhash Jha, Chief of the Nepalgunj airport office. “However, the flight resumes when the fog and mist disappears after the sun comes out.”
Jha also said that there is no need of postponing the flight due to the extreme weather condition. “We have not canceled the flight due to fog and mist. It has just been delayed for some time,” Jha said.
According to the airport office, the flight was not stopped as the visibility reached more than 1600 meters when the sun was seen in the sky. But the visibility has been declining in the morning. Currently, more than 30 daily flights have been operating from Nepalgunj Airport.
